We Need Jesus!

Welcome to the new term! As we begin new routines with school, home-school, preschool and beyond this September we want to remember the good news of Jesus. In uncertain times, we feel it is so good to remember need Jesus in our lives.

We pray that although we are still meeting apart, we are able to enjoy time in our families, drawing close to Jesus this month. For some of us, September will look a little busier than the summer so instead of weekly challenges we have a series competition!

Please if you have anything to share do send it in to: mikeholding@gracechurchexeter.org

Q3 - How did God’s power change the jailer’s heart?

Q4 - What can we learn about God’s character and the Holy Spirit from Paul and Silas being set free?

Q5 - When we know God, how can the Holy Spirit work in our lives?

Thank you Jesus that knowing you changes us as you give us new life and new hope for the future.

Questions

Consider:

Q1 - What sort of people would be introduced to royalty/VIP, who may visit your town?

Q2 - What is surprising about Jesus wanting to see Zacchaeus? [Use this question to prompt the children to dwell on the character of God, in this case his deep love for sinners]

Q3 - What does this show us about how God views those who the world may not like/look favourably on? [Like the question above, use this question to dwell on the character of God and use this to reinforce the point]

Q4 - When Zacchaeus met Jesus what changed in him? [Use this question to help the child begin to dwell on the relevance this story has today]

Q5 - When we know the love of God do we stay the same? Can we? Why might we change?

Family Worship

Sing along with the Greenhalgh family as they lead us in singing “Oh Happy Day”. Join us as we sing our series, "Jesus loves me. Thank you Jesus that when we know you and what you have done for us, it transforms our lives.

  2. Why did the man’s friends carry him to meet Jesus?

  3. What two things did Jesus do for the man?

  4. Why would the people find it strange that Jesus said ‘Your sins are forgiven’ before he healed him?

  5. When we know God’s love, what can He forgive us? What gives Jesus the power to forgive sin?

Family Worship

Parents, you can submit photos of your competition entries via WhatsApp directly to Mike or Susy or contact mikeholding@gracechurchexeter.org for details.

Craft

Make a wipe off heart: draw a heart on a window or whiteboard and let your children colour it. Explain that this is as when we sin, it is like leaving marks all over our hearts. The amazing thing about Jesus’ forgiveness is that it washes our sin away. Then wipe the heart clean to demonstrate this.

Week 2 - John 17v9.pdf

Week 1: We need the Gospel!

Story

Join Dave as he tells a lego story of the Parable of the Sower, which is found in Matthew 13:3-8. This is the heart of the gospel and the reason why we need to be rooted in Jesus. For older ones try Parable of the sower.

Questions

Each week we have prepared a set of questions that you can tailor to your children to discuss the story. We are passionate about the Bible being a living word for our children, and more than a collection of stories. We hope the following questions evoke discussion for your children.

Consider:

1) Have you grown any seeds this summer or know someone who has? What had to be done to prepare the ground for the seeds? Were they fruitful?

2) What kinds of ground did the farmer plant the seeds on?

3) What did Jesus say the Seed was?

4) Explain the different kinds of ground that the seed landed on: rocky ground, thorny ground and good ground.

5) Which soil does God want you to be like?

6) What soil do you think you are most like now? Why? What changes do you need to make this week so you can have a heart that pleases God?

Family Worship

Join the Bartlett family as they sing “This is the story of the cross” and we sing our new song for this series, “Jesus loves me”. Thank you Jesus that you love us personally.
